New Cattle Guard

The cattle guard that we installed about 3 years ago needed to be repaired or replaced.  Nathan decided that he would rather build a new one that would last, rather than have to fix it again in several years.

He installed timbers from our property and finished the sides correctly this time.  No more gate jumping steers for us!

The bars are old railroad tracks.  If you enlarge the photo, you can see that they are dated.  Most are from 1919, but a couple are from 1908.

The old cattle guard will replace the wire gate into the pasture.  No more cows in the yard because it's such a pain to shut the gate behind the tractor.  Sometimes it's just easier to be lazy.

Please note how different the driveway from 2012 looks compared to today.  Amazing what a little bit of gravel can do.
